Sunday Stealing: The Fifteen Movie Questions Meme

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand ... it's time for Sunday Stealing again :-) This week's fare is about movies ... should be fun!

1. Movie you love with a passion.
I think it has to be The Godfather. That movie has everything in it--action, drama, romance, suspense, mystery ("It was Barzini all along ..."). That is, in my humble opinion, a gold standard movie.

2. Movie you vow to never watch.
Twilight, or any of its asinine sequels. Reading the books was quite enough ;-)

3. Movie that literally left you speechless.
Wayne's World. It was so bad that I literally walked out of the movie theater ... and rendered me speechless, which is kind of hard to do. I have a really juvenile sense of humor, and it seemed like a give that I'd like it, but it was stupid that I just couldn't handle it.

4. Movie you always recommend.
Okay, I always recommend this movie because it epitomizes pure '80s cheesiness but isn't necessarily what I refer to as "The '80s Canon" (Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and so on). It falls into the "so bad it's good" category with its Velveeta goodness ... yup, for anyone that's known me for awhile (especially in my childhood), let's get your hands up for The Legend of Billie Jean. Fair is fair!

5. Actor/actress you always watch, no matter how crappy the movie.
It should go without saying that it's Johnny Depp. And any other certain bloggers that think that they own the Depp patent ... I'll fight you for him ;-)

6. Actor/actress you don’t get the appeal for.
Tom Cruise (and I was saying that before he was bouncing on couches and partaking in odd religious circumstances).

7. Actor/actress, living or dead, you’d love to meet.
Sean Penn. Definitely a bit out there, but a fascinating guy.

8. Sexiest actor/actress you’ve seen. (Picture required!)
I'm backing off the Depp thing here (I hate being predictable), so here's a pic of Rob Lowe from The Outsiders. I would so hit that!

9. Dream cast.
Gosh, I don't know ... there are so many variables involved ...


10. Favorite actor pairing.
DeNiro and Pacino.  Obvs.

11. Favorite movie setting.
I'm going with Harry Potter here.  The books created the magical mysteries of Hogwarts, but the movies brought it to life.  Those shifting staircases, the castle, the Quidditch field ... very cool :-)

12. Favorite decade for movies.
There was no decade quite like the '80s :-)

13. Chick flick or action movie?
It depends.  Some action movies (Gone in 60 Seconds jumps to mind) are just so stupid that you walk out feeling like you wasted two hours of your life.  Same with chick flicks.  There are a lot of good ones in both categories, though, so I sort of judge on a case-by-case basis.


14. Hero, villain or anti-hero?
I tend to be a little complex ... I always loved Severus Snape even before he was ... well, you know, the hero.  And I adored Marlon Brando (and Robert DeNiro, too, now that I think about it) as Vito Corleone, even when he was causing death and pain and dismembered horses and such.  I don't like my heroes to be too heroic, if that makes any sense ...

15. Black and white or color?
There is nothing quite like the moment that Dorothy steps out of her Kansas house from her black and white midwest world into the glorious colors of Oz.  

Sunday Stealing: The Honesty Meme

Ah, another installment of Sunday Stealing. Join in if you don't ... it's ridiculously fun :-)

Complete the Sentences:

Right now I'm feeling...hot. I hate summer. Grrrrrrrrrrrr :-(

When I'm alone I feel...happy. I get along with myself pretty well.

When I'm surrounded by people I feel...various ways, depending on how many people, where I am, what sort of mood I'm in, and so forth.

One thing I hate is...feet. Like, I suck up the cost of pedicures because I can't even stand touching my own feet. Also on the list--snakes, thunderstorms, and airplanes.

One thing I really like about myself is ...that I'm a nice person. Usually.

When I'm feeling sad I...cry. A lot. And then I feel better :-)

When I daydream it's usually about...uh, so not going there!

I'm afraid of...flying. I know, it's 2011 and I'm 34 years old and need to get over a lifelong fear, but ...

I'm happiest when...I'm with my kids :-)

One thing that really worries me is ...being alone forever.

If I could change one thing about myself it would be...

about thirty pounds.

If I could be with anyone right now I would be with...some anonymous Mr. Wonderful who surely must exist, right? (I'm conspicuously avoiding putting down "Johnny Depp" yet again ... although pointing that out probably negates the effort)

The family member I am closest to is...my sister. I wish she lived closer, though :(

If I was really honest with my father I would tell him...Um, being honest with my father is probably not in the cards at this point.

One thing I regret about my life is ... nothing, really. I mean, I've had some incredible ups and downs, but one thing my life has never been is boring. There's something to be said for that.

If I only had one more day to live I would...stalk Johnny Depp. (Okay, I had to slip him in there)

If I was really honest with my mother I would tell her...that I appreciate everything and that I'm sorry that we hated each other for most of my life.

One thing about me that nobody knows is...that I have three scars that will never heal, as long as I live.

I hope that someday in the future...I will be a published author.

When I think about my family I feel...sad, since everyone is spread to the seven winds.

Something I'm really embarrassed about is...the fact that I drive an old lady car ;)

One thing about me I never want to change is...my sense of humor.

One thing I feel really proud of is... my children--my daughters AND my students :)

Blogsville has helped me to...know a lot of really amazing people that I'd never otherwise have gotten to know. Oh, and also Bud (haha, just kidding, Bud ... you rock : ))

One thing I like about blogsville is...it keeps me thinking, always :-)

Sunday Stealing: The Plaid Hat Meme

Here's this week's Sunday Stealing offering. How wrong is it that I enjoy this tremendously ;-)?

1. When showering, do you start the water and then get in, or get in then start the water?
I get in the start the shower. The way my shower is set up, there's no other option ... unless I wanted to use a yardstick or something.

2. Have you ever showered with someone of the opposite sex?
Hmmm...yup :-)

3. Were you ever been forced to shower with one of your siblings?
Baths, not showers ... and, yup, there's photographic evidence. Ugh.

4. Have you ever dropped your soap on your foot?
A better question would be have I ever NOT dropped soap on my foot? I'm a notorious klutz ;-)

5. How old do people say you look?
I hear everything from late twenties to early fifties (that was a student who was not a big fan of mine ... I think she was looking for a rise out of me).

6. How old do you act?
It depends on the mood I'm in and the company I'm with. It really runs the gamut ;-)

7. What’s the last song you sang?
The theme song for one of Belle's "Strawberry Shortcake" movies. It's catchy ;-)

8. Have you recently become a member of anything?
Not that I can think of ... I've actually become quite dull since vacation has started.

9. What are your plans for next weekend?
Not sure yet ... I'm not exactly outstanding about planning ahead.

10. Do you kiss with your eyes open or closed?
Both.

11. Whats the sexiest thing about Sarah Palin?
Nothing ... she's an idiot.

12. Who’s the sexiest famous woman alive?
Kate Winslet. She seems so comfortable with her body.

13. Who’s the sexiest famous man alive?
Oh, Johnny Depp, no question.

14. Does your family have a crazy uncle?
Doesn't every family have a crazy uncle? Mine has a few, actually.

15. Have you ever smuggled something into another country?
Heehee, yup. Most interesting was when I brought Cuban cigars back from Canada on my honeymoon. I hope my brother appreciated them ...

16. Do you live in a city with a good sports team?
Nope, but we do lay claim to Boston's teams, which are of course the best :-)

17. What is the most unusual?
The most unusual what? Sports team? Meme? (not this one ...)

18. How do feel about the Goth people?
I have a "live and let live" mindset.

19. Can you fix or your significant other your own car?
This is awkwardly phrased to the point where it's bugging me. I can correct poor grammar, but my own car? Nope.

20. Would you want to kill Casey Anthony yourself if you were guaranteed to get away with it?
While I believe that Casey Anthony killed her daughter and should rot in prison forever, the judicial system disagrees. Would I kill her myself? No, I am non-violent ... but I'd happily pass the opportunity to someone else.

Sunday Stealing: The Seriously Random Question Meme Part III (The Final Edition)

With all the life drama of the past week (the last week of school, writing and grading final essays, a lot of adult drama at work that people are way too old for, Pythagorus falling off the wagon and having to pick him up at the hospital and drive him two hours home only to find I couldn't get him out of the car, re-pinching the nerve in my back when trying to lift Pythagorus out of the car ... well, you get the idea), I just haven't been up to blogging. I cannot, of course, miss a Sunday Stealing ;-)

Sunday Stealing: The Seriously Random Question Meme, Part 3 (The Final Edition)


41. Who was the last person you went shopping with?
I went book shopping with my seven-year-old yesterday. I hate shopping in general, but I could live at a bookstore, and I seem to have passed on the gene to my little one. Belle actually wrote a book last week, too. I'm very excited about these recent developments ;-)

42. What is something you need to go shopping for?
Clothes. I don't have a lot of clothes. My kids? They're decked out in the best, but I never buy clothes for myself. It's starting to catch up with me, though ... there's a lot of fraying and even some holes, and the fact that I've put on weight the last few months because of the pinched nerve thing and just falling into a lazy, gymless rut hasn't helped.

43. Do you have the same first name as one of your relatives?
I was named after a great aunt. However, my mom spelled it wrong (she was a "Katharine" and I'm a "Katherine"). I also recently found out that one of my friends from high school named her dog Katy Mae after me (my maiden name was Katie May), so I'm wondering if that counts ...

44. What kind of car do (did) your parents drive?
My mom drives a Ford Escape and my dad drives a Nissan something. My stepdad always had company cars, and they were your standard four-door sedans. My mom's most memorable car was a bright red Jeep Wrangler (which she had when I turned sixteen, so you can probably see where this is going ;-)), and my dad's most memorable car was ...

Okay, story time. My dad is one of the cheapest people I know, and between the time he divorced my mother and married my stepmother, he had no one to impress. His car had died and he was borrowing my grandmother's, and he found this ugly brown Bondo-infested Chevy Citation on the side of the road for $500.

He bought it, and it was still running well three years later when he traded it in for a slightly more "lawyerly" car.

45. Are you rich?
I live in the attic of a barn at my mother's house. I teach in one of the lowest-paying districts in the state. In other words ... NO ;-)

46. If you could spend one intimate night with a celebrity, no questions asked, never to see them again, who would it be?
Johnny Depp, of course. He's interesting, which is good, and hot, which is better.

49. What is the most daring thing you've done recently?
Well, this is hard to answer without getting into details that I can't, but I'll do the best I can.

So, recently, my work has turned into a scene from the movie Mean Girls. And I'm talking about the adults. It's just horrible.

And it takes a lot of courage to stay out of the fray. I haven't always been able to do it, and I've gotten bogged down in the mires quite a bit this spring, but I've really started to stand up to the gossiping, backstabbing minority that have infiltrated what was once a wonderful place to work by not getting involved.

I think that's daring. (I also think driving a drunk man that has physically abused me the two hours home and then literally lifting him out of the car knowing that I had to go home and write an exam to be given at eight the next morning was pretty daring, but, as my mother pointed out when she was freaking out on me about it after I got home, it was also pretty stupid).

50. Say you were given a pregnancy test right now. Would you pass or fail?
Oh, I would definitely, unequivocally pass. How embarrassing to admit on Blogger that there is 100% no way you could be pregnant ;-)

51. Which sex scandal of the last decade bothers you the most?
Probably the whole Anthony Weiner thing. I mean, if your last name is Weiner, you should automatically be holding yourself to a higher standard. I think the lying bothered me the most ... I mean, if you're literally caught with your pants down (after posting pics of yourself with your pants down), have the cojones to admit it.

52. Do you know anyone in jail/prison?
Personally? Not that I know of.

53. What are your plans (or what have you done) for this weekend?
Well, I spent yesterday with Belle since Addie had gone to an amusement park with a bunch of her friends. We went mini-golfing and out to dinner and on several other random adventures.

I fell asleep reading a book at a ridiculously early hour last night.

This morning, I've been drinking coffee, writing a piece for Zelda Lily, and now here on my lovely personal blog.

Today, I am resting my stupid back and packing with my mother and Belle for our trip to New York City. We're leaving tomorrow to meet with an agent that wants to represent Belle in the modeling/acting world. I'm still not sure how we fell into this whole thing, but here we are.

54. Have you ever woken up and not known where you were?
Haha, yup. I loved college ;-)

55. What were you doing at midnight last night??
Sleeping :-) I've gotten very boring in my old age.

56. Last restaurant you went to?

Pizza Hut. I let Belle choose where we went to dinner last night ... her original choice was McDonald's, so I figure Pizza Hut was some sort of progress, right?

57. How many hours did you sleep for last night?
Over ten, actually, which has to be some kind of record for me.

58. Which is more distracting: Sexting while driving or sex while driving?
Definitely sexting. You're trying to juggle your phone, your thoughts, reading someone else's thoughts, and the road. Sex, it's just you, someone else, and the road ... thinking tends to be taken out of it. Either one is pretty distracting, though ...

59. Do you think someone is thinking about you right now?
Probably ... I actually have a stalker. He texts me relentlessly (I haven't blocked him yet because it's kind of entertaining) with abysmal grammar, which is one of the biggest turn-offs for me. "i miss u" and "wd u snd pix" and so on. It should probably bother me more, but I just feel bad for the guy ... we went to high school together, and he's ... well, texting someone who responds back "I'M BUSY" every 40 texts or so is probably the highlight of his week. Sad :-(

60. Have you ever changed your clothes while in a vehicle?
Haha, all the time. I used to have getting my work uniform on while driving mastered, actually, when I was heading to work from my parents' house, and that was when I drove a standard.
