True there was her upbringing that hindered her mindset and the war the brought upheaval to her whole life, but if she had ever just stopped to think about someone other that herself and money for once, she would have realized her love for Melly and Butler much earlier on and would have saved herself a lot of heartache.
Also, when you wrote about her going back to Tara with company, her parents weren't dead. Her mom had died that day without her knowledge, and her father was still alive though he had lost a part of himself and his mind with Ellen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3196908370614674789.post-13134806560302458742010-05-06T14:01:56.420-04:002010-05-06T14:01:56.420-04:00I love Scarlett. She's one of my favorite literary characters, and honestly, I think she's set to a different standard because she's a woman who is expected to be "gracious and polite blah blah blah." She was breaking gender norms, and I think she's powerful. Imagine if a man had done the same things. He would've been called opportunistic maybe. But bitchy and immature? I don't think so.XiXihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05364953168828471897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3196908370614674789.post-46857630958375550112010-05-05T23:11:17.424-04:002010-05-05T23:11:17.424-04:00I always found Scarlett to be tediously immature a...I always found Scarlett to be tediously immature and bitchy. All the trouble she got, she brought upon herself by making bad decisions and trying to manipulate events to suit her. The lesson is that all that conniving and manipulation won't do any good in the end. Imagine how well her life would have been if she'd just been kind to people, more thoughtful, and more gracious. But that wouldn't have been much of a story.

I knew a Tara. She was a psychotic bitch, certainly not worthy of being named after such a lovely place.Marvinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10651926840296438477noreply@blogger.com
